I. Introduction
EuMARKJUNGsim was a YouTube variety series in the form of a talk show, hosted by NCT members Jungwoo and Mark, as part of NCT 2021 promotions. The pair interview other members of NCT in short segments, often referencing popular memes and references from the fandom.
II. Overview
The group structure of NCT is unique among K-Pop groups due to the fact that the concept of NCT is an ever expanding group with "unlimited" members and it is comprised of several individual subunits. Currently there are 23 members in NCT, making up four individual subunits.
The sub-units combine to create an all-unit project in select years that features all NCT members, debuts new ones, releases albums and appears on TV shows, web and social content. Past events include NCT 2018 Empathy and NCT 2020 Resonance. This series was created as part of the NCT 2021 Universe event.
EuMARKJUNGsim was created in conjunction with Music Core as a mini talk show hosted by two NCT members who were past and current Show MCs: Mark (past) and Jungwoo (current). The name of the show is a play on Music Core's Romanized name, Syo! Eumakjungsim, using the two hosts' names.
The concept mirrors and references the mini talk show created for NCT 2020 Resonance, Welcome to Sun & Moon, including the ways the members are grouped by theme and the show's timing. The previous talk show was clearly filmed over the course of NCT 2020 Resonance photo and video shoots. Similarly, EuMARKJUNGsim is clearly filmed during NCT 2021 Universe photo and video shoots with members appearing in their photoshoot wardrobe.
Other NCT members appear in themed cross-unit groups as guests, with the 21 of the active members at the time appearing on the show. Lucas was on hiatus, while Winwin was filming a movie in China. The members that appear are: Taeil, Johnny, Taeyong, Yuta, Kun, Doyoung, Ten, Jaehyun, Jungwoo, Mark, Xiaojun, Hendery, Renjun, Jeno, Haechan, Jaemin, YangYang, Shotaro, Sungchan, Chenle and Jisung. The talk show references popular memes and themes from NCT's fandom and past content with many jokes meant specifically for fans.
Episodes are about 5-10 minutes and were released on the NCT YouTube channel.

IV. Trivia
Many familiar and popular memes or references within the fandom appear in the EuMARKJUNGsim series.
- During all-unit content, members are often grouped together in unusual cross-unit arrangements, rather than only grouped with the members of their units.
Episode 1: Sodongmulz (Small Animals)
- Every member of NCT has an emoji that represents them on social channels and in content. This episode features all the members with small animals as their representative emoji, which is often a play on their appearance or personality:
- Doyoung - NCT 127 - 🐰 (rabbit)
- Renjun - NCT Dream - 🦊 (fox)
- Jaemin - NCT Dream - 🐰 (rabbit)
- Shotaro - no group yet at this point in time - 🦦 (otter)
- Jisung - NCT Dream (NCT's maknae) - 🐹 (hamster)
- Doyoung is the oldest member of this group at 25 (international age). The other members are all 21 except for Jisung, who is 19. This is part of the joke of him being the leader and Jisung - who is the tallest member there - being the smallest.
- Jaemin jokes about being a cat. There are already two cats in NCT: Johnny and Ten. There is also a lion and a cub.
- There is also a backstory between Doyoung teasing Renjun. The two were paired together during NCT 2020 Resonance on the web show It's Awkward, But It's OK, where members who don't know each other very well are paired together while other members give them silly instructions from another room through an earpiece. This was a running joke in NCT 2020 Resonance content.
- Doyoung complains he's the only one born in the 90s - Jungwoo was born in 1998, Mark was born in 1999.
- The "leave now" comment at the end of each episode is a reference to Welcome to Sun & Moon.
Episode 2: Mureokmureokz (Keeps Growingz)
- Some members appear in multiple episodes. This also happened in Welcome to Sun & Moon.
- This episode features several of the tallest members of NCT - specifically the younger ones. Missing is the tallest member, Johnny, although he is also one of the oldest members.
- Members include Sungchan (who does have a unit at this point in time yet) and Jisung from NCT Dream, as well as the host Jungwoo.
- Sungchan thinks he is 184.8 cm, which is a little over 6 feet.
- Jungwoo talks about being older. He is 23 and the oldest person of this grouping. Mark is 22, Sungchan is 20, Jisung is 19.
- Mark says "Czennie, write that down." Czennie (pronounced Seasonie) is a nickname for NCT fans, NCTzens.
- Mark has been working with Jisung since they were children and Jisung was very small.
- Jisung is 180 cm, which is about 5'11".
- They joke about Haechan's height. He has also been with Mark and Jisung since childhood. They are all in NCT Dream together. Haechan is 173 cm or about 5'8".
- They reference the Welcome Sun & Moon show.
Episode 3: N-geoldan (Best Husband Material)
- The subtitles reference "pak pak sugar-style" which is a reference to NCT 127's recent song "Sticker," where Johnny refers to the girl as sweet like "pak pak sugar."
- The three members described here as "best husband material" are often referred to fans this way. Additionally, Kun and Taeil are excellent cooks who cook for the other members.
- The members are Taeil of NCT 127, Johnny of NCT 127 and Kun of WayV.
- Taeil is the oldest member of NCT at 27, Johnny is the second oldest at 26. Kun is the fifth oldest at 26 and the oldest in WayV.
- Jungwoo has to leave for his NCT 2021 Universe photoshoot. (Remember: this show is filmed in between photography.)
- Kun being the "mom" of WayV is a long-running joke in content, but as he notes here he prefers "elder brother."
- Kun references home cooked meals. He and the other members of WayV are Chinese and have often referenced the difficulty of finding authentic Chinese meals in Korea, making them appreciate his cooking even more.
- The subtitles reference Taeil as Master Moon Chef, which is a reference to his tongue-in-cheek cooking series.
- Kun references his group mate Ten.
- Kun asks if he can sing. He is one of the main vocalists of his sub-unit.
- They are astonished that Taeil is going to rap because he is one of the main vocalists of his sub-unit. (Mark is a main rapper and Johnny is a sub-rapper.)
Episode 4: Beaglez
- Haechan references back to Welcome to Sun & Moon.
- Haechan is subbing here for Jungwoo, who is still on his photoshoot.
- These members are the "beaglez." A beagle is an idol who is noisy, mischievous and playful.
- The members are the beagles of each unit: Haechan of NCT 127, Hendery of WayV and Chenle of Dream. (Haechan is also in Dream.)
- Despite being called beagles, none of these members have dog emojis. That's Jungwoo and Jeno.
- Chenle references his web show Chenle and Jisung's This & That.
- They reference Bella, WayV's beagle who is owned by Xiaojun. The WayV pets are so popular they have their own merchandise.
- Hendery also references the other two WayV pets: Leon and Louis, Ten's cats.
Episode 5: Foreign Swaggers
- During their pre-debut SM Rookies promo video, Mark dubbed the group of Johnny (an American), Mark (a Canadian) and Jaehyun (a Korean who "lived in America for four years, that's why he's here, man") as foreign swaggers. The joke has grown over the years and is referenced in social content. The group has expanded to include other foreign-born members who are fluent in English like Ten (Thai) and YangYang (Taiwanese).
- In Welcome to Sun & Moon, Foreign Swaggers was one of the groups in their own episode. It was also the first time YangYang was included in the group. Due to the timing of the photoshoots, Jaehyun was unable to make the Foreign Swaggers group episode of Welcome to Sun & Moon, which is what they're referencing here.
- Foreign Swaggers content is usually in English. (This is a big part of the joke in the Sun & Moon episode where Haechan is repeating Justin Bieber lyrics to show off his English.)
- Jungwoo is the only member here who is not fluent in English, which is why he asks about the language and they agree to speak a combination.
- The members reference "A Cup of Coffee," which was a two-part episode of social content that involved Johnny, Ten, Jaehyun and Mark. (Doyoung also appears in the second episode.) The two videos have some of the most popular memes and jokes in the fandom. This is also when Ten joins the Foreign Swaggers. The first part was a Vlive, while the second episode was on the NCT Daily YouTube channel. (Each of the videos are about a half hour.)
- Mark references beatboxing, which goes back to the very first SM Rookies Foreign Swaggers video.
Episode 6: New AWASZ
- These two members are starring in a new episode of It's Awkward But It's OK (어색하지만 괜찮아), known as Awsaz (어사즈). It's an ongoing YouTube variety web series that plays on the common perception that members of NCT do not know each other well. It divides members into pairs that actually don't know each other that well or haven't been close in a one-on-one environment. The pair gets directions and challenges in another room from a different pair of members to encourage them to be silly and open up.
- This pairing references a moment during NCT 2020 Resonance that was popular in fan memes and videos where Yuta is talking to a seemingly nervous Xiaojun in the hallway.
Time-stamped
- These two members are Yuta from NCT 127 and Xiaojun from WayV. Neither of these members are native Korean speakers, which is why they're chuckling a bit when they answer in different languages.
- Welcome to Sun & Moon also had an episode featuring members who were in AWSAZ together.
Episode 7: NCT Lee
- All of these members have the same last name. Several were on earlier episodes.
- This is an ongoing joke within the fandom.
- The members are Mark, Ten, Taeyong, Haechan and Jeno.
- Again, the show is referencing Welcome to Sun & Moon with the running joke about Haechan the MC.
- The series was clearly recorded earlier in the year due to the references of what members are working on at the time:
- Jeno references his single with Super Junior's Donghae "California Love," which was released in October.
- Ten references his single as part of the WayV Ten & YangYang sub-unit "Low Low," which was released in August.
- Taeyong is referencing NCT 127's "Sticker" album, which was released in September.
- Their new Lee names represent their different regions.
- Ten and Mark don't know the word game because they did not grow up in Korea.
- Ten's struggle with Korean word games is a long-running joke in content. It's not his first language, although he's fluent in five. It's not Mark's either, as he grew up in Canada.
- Haechan's "viewership rating of 37.5" is a long-running joke in NCT content and refers to his occasional radio show.
- The members are spoiling the NCT 2021 Universe title track "Beautiful," although the album was already released by the time this content aired.
