NCT 127 - Loveholic

  • I. Introduction

Loveholic is the second Japanese EP from the permanent NCT sub-unit, NCT 127. It was released on February 17, 2021, with its initial release delayed from December.

    II. Background & Overview

Originally scheduled to release on December 23, 2020, NCT 127's second Japanese EP was delayed to February 17, 2021 due to production issues. The EP came in 9 individual member covers, a Blu-ray edition and a Fanclub edition. It contains five songs in Japanese.

Loveholic marks the first NCT sub-unit release following the all-unit NCT Resonance event. The group structure of NCT is unique among K-Pop groups due to the fact that the concept of NCT is an ever expanding group with "unlimited" members and it is comprised of several individual subunits. Currently there are 23 members in NCT, making up four individual subunits. The sub-units combine to create an all-unit project in select years that features all NCT members, debuts new ones, releases albums, appears on TV shows, web and social content. The albums tied to the 2020 all-unit Resonance event became best-sellers in 2020 with NCT 2020 Resonance Pt. 1 temporarily becoming SM Entertainment's top-selling album of all time. Each NCT sub-unit's release after Resonance outperformed the group's previous releases, often selling more than double the previous amount.

Teasers for the new album began appearing on January 4 with the tracklist revealed on January 12. The first pre-release single "First Love" was released on January 26. The album, as well as the second single "Gimme Gimme" and its MV were released on February 17.

This release was the first sub-unit release after the highly successful all-unit NCT 2020 Resonance event. The release was the first to see the post-Resonance bump the units experienced from increased attention, more than doubling the sales of the previous NCT 127 Japanese releases.
