(Un)Official Cantonese Class with Teacher Hendery

I. Introduction

(Un)Official Cantonese Class with Teacher Hendery is a YouTube variety reality series where WayV member Hendery teaches viewers Cantonese. This series is part of the larger WayV-ariety umbrella.

II. Overview

The group structure of NCT is unique among K-Pop groups due to the fact that the concept of NCT is an ever expanding group with "unlimited" members and it is comprised of several individual subunits. WayV is one of the sub-units and has its own WayV-ariety umbrella for an assortment of videos on YouTube, including ongoing series hosted by a member. Special episodes of WayV-ariety content also appear in support of the all-unit NCT 2020 Resonance event.

WayV-ariety originally added member-hosted regular shows during promotions for its first full album, Awaken the World, in May 2020. Hendery was the last WayV member to get his own special YouTube series in WayV-ariety. Hendery is one of three native Cantonese speakers in NCT, including Xiaojun and Lucas. This is the fifth show around learning languages in NCT content: shows previously covered Japanese in NCT 127 Teach Me Japan, English in NCT 127 American School 101, Indonesian in Halo! Indonesian School and Mandarin Chinese in NCT Chinese Special Tips. Like the Mandarin and Indonesian series, this series digs deeper into phrases, language usage and grammar than the Japanese or American series. Unlike all of the previous series, no other NCT members are learning the language in this series, which only features Hendery.

In July 2022, all of this content moved under the new WayV Presents umbrella and new episodes of shows did not have the WayV-ariety name.

Each episode is about 12 to 15 minutes long with subtitles.
