  • I. Introduction


    Lalisa is the first single album by BLACKPINK's Lisa.

    It was released on September 10, 2021 through YG Entertainment and Interscope Records, it consists of 2 tracks, Lalisa serving as the title track and the b-side Money.




    II. Background and Release


    On April 19, 2021, an official fromYG Entertainment revealed to South Korean media outlet The Korea Herald that Lisa would debut as the third soloist from her group (after her group-mates Jennie and Rose respectively) with schedules later to be officially announced through a notice.

    On July 12, through Star News, her label revealed filming for her music video was underway.

    On July 25, the singer uploaded two images from her in a recording studio onto her instagram stories, where a close-up of a screen is shown alongside two different soundwaves and the caption "What’s my name?", hinting at the single album's title.

    On August 25, 2021, YG Entertainment uploaded a teaser poster with the album's title, named after her given name, with pre-orders starting that same date. On August 27, YG released a 26-second teaser showcasing one of the visual concepts of the album.

    On August 30, it was confirmed by YG that the title track of the album would also be named "Lalisa".

    The single album was released worldwide on September 10 through YG and Interscope Records in conjunction with the music video for its single.




    III. Commercial Performance



    Lalisa surpassed 700,000 preorders within four days, making it the best-selling single album by a Korean female solo artist, surpassing the record made by Rose's R in March.
    By 10th of September, the single album had surpassed 800,000 preorders.

    Although YouTube has not yet confirmed the music video’s official 24-hour view count, it appears that “Lalisa” may have set a new record for the highest number of views ever achieved by a solo artist’s music video in its first 24 hours with 70.3M views. Youtube later revealed the official views number for Lalisa's MV to have reached a total of 73.6M views in the first 24 hours of release.

    Hanteo, one of the two most popular and closely-watched chart companies in South Korea, has revealed that Lalisa has broken the all-time record for the most sales in a single week for any release by a female musician by selling a whopping 736k copies.
