Kangta - Polaris


  • I. Introduction

    Polaris is the first studio album by K-pop artist Kangta, a former member of the boy group H.O.T. It was released on August 19, 2001.


    II. Background and Release

    Kangta was the first member of H.O.T. to release a solo album after the group disbanded in March 2001. H.O.T. was very successful and are considered by many to be the first kpop idol group. During their career, they sold over 6.4 million records, becoming popular not only in Korea but also in China.


    Polaris featured 15 songs, including the title track "Polaris." Kangta wrote several songs on the album, as he would for his future releases. The second single "Thank God" was released on Sept. 21.

    VI. Reception

    Polaris was hugely successful, selling 492,843 copies in Korea, which would be the highest sales of any of his solo albums in his career. This was almost double what his next album would sell.
