Sunny (님은 먼곳에) is a 2008 South Korean drama film directed by Lee Joon-ik. It takes place in 1971 and follows a South Korean housewife who joins a traveling musical troupe in order to find her husband in war-torn Vietnam.
Soon-yi (Soo Ae)is a meek, country girl stuck in an unhappy arranged marriage with a man who is in love with someone else. Despite trying to make the most of the situation, she finds that she is unable to gain the love and acceptance of her husband or his family. When her husband is sent to Vietnam and his family blames her, Soon-yi decides to go there to find him out of a sense of family duty.
Unable to figure out another way to get to Vietnam, Soon-yi agrees to join a musical group that travels the region entertaining troops. Rechristened "Sunny", Soon-yi soon finds herself exposed to a much rougher and more dangerous life than she is used to. Along the way, she gains confidence and finds her inner strength as well as realizing that there is much more to the world than what she was taught to expect.
